Continuing Education with our Stroke Seminars

Educating healthcare personnel on the topic of stroke is both exciting and entertaining. It is amazing how much collective energy comes together during a seminar as we learn and grow together in our common goals of reaching difficult patients and residents. Whether it be communicating with people with aphasia, working with individuals with strong visual neglect, or adapting for paralysis we work through the tough issues and find potential solutions.

Stroke is the leading cause of disability in the United States today. It is estimated that over 3 million adults are living with the effects of a stroke. Every 3 and one-half minutes someone dies from a stroke, yet every minute and twenty seconds someone in the U.S. survives a stroke. You are probably working with many stroke survivors in your facility.

Barbara Bond-Howard, MA,CTRS/R holds a Masters degree in Therapeutic Recreation from the University of Northern Colorado and has over 25 years experience working with stroke survivors in Rehabilitation Facilities. She is the author of Introduction to Stroke, a textbook for therapeutic recreation students. She has also authored the Comprehensive Visual Neglect Assessment. (CVnA)
